One wallet, one device.
The ORBIS Wallet is a phone app where you hold the proofs people and organizations send you. You use them to check in, apply for things, prove age. It does not sync. It does not back up. It does not store anything in the cloud. One device holds it all. That is what custody means on this platform.
Custody as a design choice, not a promise.
The device is your only copy. No server holds a backup. No company holds a recovery key. The security that makes proofs impossible to forge is the same architecture that makes recovery impossible to build. You cannot have one without the other.
What the wallet holds and what it does.
Proofs that organizations have sent you. Each proof is a small signed text file that says one thing — you are over eighteen, you passed this qualification, this employer vouches for you. You can disclose one proof to someone who asks without showing them the others. Your keys stay on the device they were born on and do not travel to a second phone, which is the same fact as the one in the next section wearing different clothes.
A native build creates that key inside the phone's own hardware. A browser build does not, and this page will not blur the two — a browser key is still yours and still never leaves the device, but it does not sit behind the same hardware wall a native build's key does.
One wallet, one device. If you lose the phone today, you lose what is on it.
Do not plan around a recovery path that does not exist yet. If the device is lost or stolen, the proofs are gone. Reinstalling the app on a new phone gives you an empty wallet. Organisations you worked with still have the proofs they signed for you — they can re-issue them. But the platform does not hold backups and does not broker recovery. That is the cost of custody on your own device.

This is the one row the register holds, and it does not say the wallet is finished. It says that installing a wallet and holding a credential on a phone you own is not something a person can do today — which is exactly the part of this page that has not happened yet.

- Does the wallet sync across my devices?
- No. Each device has its own wallet. A proof on your phone does not appear on your tablet.
- What if I upgrade to a new phone?
- You install the app fresh and get an empty wallet. Organisations you work with can re-issue proofs. Your keys do not travel between phones.
- Can you recover my wallet if I lose it?
- No. There is nothing to recover. The wallet does not exist anywhere except on the phone.
The architecture that makes a proof impossible to forge is the same architecture that makes recovery impossible to build. Every wallet that offers you both is doing one of them badly, and it is usually not the one they advertise.
